Submission Guidelines
A handy PDF version of these guidelines can be downloaded here: RBB Submission Guidelines
Submissions should be sent to submissions@reallybluebooks.com
- All documents submitted MUST be your own work. Plagiarism is not acceptable. Not even when the original author is dead, buried and thinks that the 1920s were too liberated for their liking. (In which case, we probably wouldn’t publish it anyway.)
- Files submitted can be in any of the following formats: .doc, .docx, .odt, .pdf, .rtf, .html, .xhtml, .epub, .indd (Microsoft Word, Libre Office/Open Office, Adobe PDF, Adobe InDesign, web or ebook formats).
- We lean towards publishing fiction and non-fiction based on readership. We will take a gamble on most things though, so please contact us if you have an idea or piece of work that might be of interest to us.
- Include a proposal/introduction to your work (2 pages maximum). This should at least include:
- What type, genre and age group it is aimed towards, eg. Fiction, Horror, 2 – 5 year olds (or whatever floats your boat). I hear that piece about the lost dummy is truly terrifying. Seriously.
- Whether it is a stand-alone work or part of a series
- Your intent behind the piece
- A brief summary of the plot
- An outline of the characters
- Note the manuscript length in your brief. Your manuscript can be of any length, but bear in mind we approximately classify by these word count guidelines:
- Novels: 45,000 words or more
- Novellas and Young Adult fiction: 18,000 – 45,000 words
- Novelette: 7,500 – 18,000 words
- Short stories: less than 7,500 words*
* Please note that we like to publish short stories in collections, so a minimum collection of four is required to be considered for acceptance.
All lengths of work are acceptable and you are welcome to argue the classification point with us, however we do lean towards novels and novella-length works for publication.
- Make sure you have included suitable contact details to allow us to gladly accept/cruelly reject your work. In reality, this means a working email address. No other personal contact details are required unless your work is accepted. All contact will be made through your Really Blue Books website account (coming soon) and your personal email. All contact details are kept strictly confidential and will not be shared with any other party.
- Above all, remember that we reward originality and creativity. We want our readers to think of us as the Willy Wonka of publishers: surprising, exciting and awesome – all at the same time.
